I expected to see a lot of people reading Deathly Hallows on the subway, but it seems to be the exact opposite. Whenever I break it out, people around me start whispering. Y'know, "wow, there it is!" and stuff like that. I think my reading the book on the subway has sparked more conversations than I feel entirely comfortable with.

The death toll remains unchanged for the moment.
In fact, it's actually sort of the opposite. As exciting and enjoyable as the book is (and it is definitely both), I can't help but feel at times as if it's turning into a 759 page casting call. It seems like every character who's ever made an appearance in the book is showing up, either directly or in photographs and letters and such. The really obscure characters (Grawp, for example) still make an appearance in random asides. Nobody's getting left out of this one. I just reached the part where Mundungus talks about Umbridge, which is what made me think about it, but I'd been noticing it for a while already.
Of course, most of these appearances have been great. Luna Lovegood was particularly hilarious. I loved the way she recognized Harry even though he was polyjuiced. Priceless.
Sam, finish the book already! Charlie and I both did and we want to discuss. Talk soon,
David
Casting call is right. Why bother? I ask. I think some series do not have to have such a "movie" ending where you see the cast of characters appear at the end. Not exactly a bold move on Rowling's part.
